I'm Aaron Raymer. I lead software engineering teams and write here about how engineering organizations actually work, and how AI research is reshaping them.

Background

Currently Head of Engineering at Craft Education, where I run product engineering, platform, SRE, and an AI augmentation function inside the SDLC. Before that I was Director of Site Reliability Engineering at IRALOGIX, and ran the Platform & Cloud function at Western Governors University for four years, including the year I won the company's Outstanding Manager of the Year award. Earlier in my career I built deep-learning and NLP models at Capital One's Center for Machine Learning, including a sentiment analysis tool with Bayesian confidence shipped on AWS Kubernetes.

The throughline across all of it is fashioning architecture and team structure together so they evolve in step, instead of fighting each other as the company grows. Most of what I write here is about that, and the new shape of the problem now that agents are part of the work.
